MARDAN: Provincial Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru said here on Monday that government was taking measures to improve living standard of people.

He visited sewerage treatment plant (STP) in the district and inspected the ongoing developmental work over there. He showed satisfaction over the ongoing work and said that projects should be completed within stipulated time.

The minister said that construction of the sewage treatment plant would reduce health and sanitation problems in the area. “The government has launched Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project in five divisional headquarters to improve sanitation services and living standard of people,” he added.

He also directed the contractor to speed up work on STP to facilitate residents of the district.

The minister also chaired a meeting. The meeting was attended by the deputy commissioner, Mohammad Fayyaz Khan Sherpao, the chief engineer of Cities Implementation Unit (CIU), Imran Zaman, the chief financial officer, Naveed Akhtar, the manager of municipal services, Mohammad Khalil Akbar, the manager of human resource and admin, Rahatullah, PMCSC resident engineer Arshad Qayum Babar, the general manager of Matracon, Imran Haider, and the deputy manager of project, Qasim Mumtaz Awan.

Imran Zaman briefed the minister about ongoing work on the project. He said that a modern sewerage treatment plant would set up under the project. He said that domestic sewerage connections of six urban union councils would be connected for treatment through STP.

He said work on 82-kilometre sewerage network was in full swing and would be completed timely. He claimed that work in Rorya was 90 per cent completed while survey was conducted in rest of the union councils.

The official said that 4,300 manholes and 13,000 sewerage connections would be set up under the project in the district.
