SWABI: Butchers are violating the official price list and charging Rs200 extra per kilogramme for beef, consumers complained here on Sunday.
The administration has fixed Rs700 per kg for buffalo meat and Rs740 per kg for cow meat, but the butchers charge Rs900 per kg.
The consumers alleged that the district administration officials didn’t take action against the profiteers as they got the meat at ‘subsidised’ rates at the cost of common people.
The consumers claimed the butchers charged a fixed price from the officials, and in turn they were given free hand to ‘fleece’ consumers.
Anees Khan of Shahmansoor village said when he asked a butcher in Panjpir as to why he charged Rs900 per kg instead of Rs700 officially fixed rate, he argued that meat of a young animal was expensive.
Ghulam Ali, another consumer, said when he asked for the price of buffalo meat at a beef centre near the bus stop of polytechnic college, Panjpir, they said he would be charged Rs900 per kg, Rs200 in excess of the official rate.
The administration officials were repeatedly contacted to know their version on the matter, but they didn’t pick the calls.
KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED: The police arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered weapons from them, DSP Chota Lahor Fazal Sher Khan said.
He said they recovered three Kalashnikovs, a rifle, two Chinese rifles, five pistols and 256 cartridges from the possession of Fawad Khan and Nasim Khan, who were involved in the abduction of Mamraz Khan, a resident of Kunda village.
When contacted, Chota Lahor city police station SHO Altaf Khan told Dawn a police team arrested the accused during a search operation.
