KARACHI: The chances of an early truce agreement between India and Pakistan are bright despite ... reports in the Indian Press of a deadlock in the truce negotiations, it was learnt ... on Tuesday [April 12] from official sources. The most important pre-requisite to signing a truce agreement is the acceptance of certain common and broad principles by the contracting parties[.]
The question of drawing a truce line is regarded here as a matter for the military experts of the two Dominions to accomplish in consultation with their respective Governments.
The other important point of difference reported in a section of the Indian Press relates to India’s demand for the disbandment of the Azad forces. It has been repeatedly pointed out by both official and political circles in Karachi that the question of determining the strength of the Azad forces can only arise after a truce agreement has been signed. … It is expected the UNCIP would make Rawalpindi or Murree their headquarters… . Talks regarding the truce are expected to begin shortly (in Rawalpindi) between the Commission and the Pakistan Government.
