ONLINE SCAMS

ONLINE SCAMS: Online scamming and cybercrimes, such as financial fraud and identity thefts, have become increasingly common since the Covid pandemic during which many people had switched to various digital platforms for making money. With about 60 per cent of Pakistanis now online, the cybercrimes are expected to increase with time. Only 20pc of the reported cybercrimes end in convictions, which is a rather low conversion rate. There has been an estimated annual loss of Rs50 billion, which is staggering. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) needs to take proactive measures to curb these crimes and to give relief to the people.

SHOWING THE MIRROR: This is with reference to the article ‘Words vs works’ (March 15). The writer chose to show us a mirror of Muslim-majority countries. I will limit myself here to Pakistan only. It is absolutely correct to say that our problem is not a few bad apples, but rather a rot from top to bottom. The only non-corrupt are mostly those who have not yet got a chance to try their hand. All you have to do is to step out of your cocoon and travel to the first intersection on the closest road and you will notice a dozen of social ills.

TREES OF HOPE: Trees play an important role in the survival and development of human beings, animals and the environment. The International Day of Forests was observed recently across the globe. The day aimed at protecting and promoting greenery by underscoring its gross advantages. Trees provide numerous environmental and monetary benefits. However, their most important benefit is offering long-lasting hope. Living in a green environment and taking care of it reduces levels of anxiety, depression and sadness in human beings. We all must promote tree plantation so that a happier life on the earth can be sustained. Doing so is very simple. Save a tree, save a life.
