TOBA TEK SINGH: Three police officials, including a station house officer (SHO), were suspended from service after a suspected robber, who was handed over to police by locals two days ago, allegedly died in Faisalabad’s Samanabad police custody on Saturday night.

According to sources, locals had overpowered the suspect, a resident of Pirmahal, two days ago during a robbery and handed him over to Samnabad police, while his two accomplices fled away.

The sources say he was tortured by police and when his condition deteriorated was taken to the Government General Hospital in Samanabad by ASI Riasat Ali.

When the doctors at the hospital asked the ASI about necessary information regarding the patient, the police official brought the suspect back to the police station, where he succumbed to hiswounds later.

City police spokesperson says that City Police Officer (CPO) retired Capt Muhammad Ali Zia, taking notice of the incident, on Sunday suspended SHO Muhammad Rizwan, ASI Riasat Ali and Muharrar Muhammad Atif from service over the custodial death of the suspect.

He says the CPO has directed SSP investigation to probe into the incident and submit a report.

The spokesperson claimed that the suspect was caught and tortured by a mob two days ago.When the suspect was handed over to police, his health condition was not good, he said, adding that he was shifted to the hospital, “where he died”.
