KARACHI: A divorced woman was shot dead while her teenage daughter wounded allegedly by the woman’s former husband over a family dispute in Orangi Town, police said on Thursday.

They added that the dispute allegedly erupted over marriage proposal of the wounded girl.

Pirabad SHO Shahid Taj said that 38-year-old Zarkhaiba was gunned down and her 16-year-old daughter, Marwa, wounded inside their home in Frontier Colony by unidentified suspect(s). He said the woman was divorced around two years ago and was living with her children.

The wounded daughter, however, raised suspicions about involvement of her father in the attack as he was opposed to her marriage proposal and had allegedly killed her former fiance in the recent past.

Mr Taj said that the police had registered a murder case on complaint of the wounded girl against her father.

According to the contents of the FIR, the complainant said that unidentified killers had targeted her fiance at the behest of her father in 2022 in which her fiance, Hayat, his uncle and a rickshaw driver were gunned down and the FIR of that incident was registered at Pirabad police station.

She added that they were now living ‘secretly’ in Frontier Colony and her mother had got her engaged with someone else but her father was also opposing that engagement and had threatened dire consequences to her mother. “I have doubts that my father, Faizur Rehman, got her killed,” she said.
