KARACHI: A woman on Tuesday filed an application before a district and sessions court seeking protection for herself and her husband since her family had labelled the couple as ‘karo-kari’.

Applicant Ayesha, wife of Abdul Majeed, filed the application under Section 22-B of the criminal procedure code (CrPC), through her counsel Faheem Ali Mangi, before District and Sessions Judge (West) Abdul Naeem Memon.

In the application, she stated that she got married at the age of 20 on her own free will and in March 2023 the couple had relocated to Karachi. She said she was not kidnapped or abducted by her husband.

However, her relatives, including her father and brothers had declared them ‘karo-kari’ and were allegedly attempting to harm them.

Her counsel submitted that over 10 individuals, armed with batons, had arrived at his client’s residence in Karachi to inflict harm upon her and her husband. However, the couple was not present at home.

Upon their arrival, they discovered that the applicant’s personal belongings had been vandalised. Their neighbours informed them that several people displaying her photograph had inquired about her whereabouts.

She claimed that Ali Ahmed, Allah Bux, Sajid Ali, Ali Sher, Ayub, Tahir, Lemun, and Mansoor were allegedly planning to harm them.

She requested the court to provide protection as per the Constitution, which ensures protection to every law-abiding citizen of the country.

Furthermore, she urged the court to direct SSP-West and SHO of the Docks police station to not lodge any FIR against her and her husband on the complaints of those nominated by her in the application.
