KARACHI: Two persons were wounded in a grenade attack on the house of a former political activist in Baldia Town on Tuesday evening, police said.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that unidentified persons threw a grenade on the house of Ali Mada, who was previously associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and rode away.

The DIG said that four men, riding on two motorcycles, arrived at the Syed Mohalla in Baldia Town and asked a person standing there about the house of Ali Mada. When they were informed about the house, they threw a hand grenade and fled.

He said that two persons suffered injuries in the attack and they were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

The bomb disposal squad and crime scene unit of the police were called for collecting evidence, he said, adding that CCTV footage was also being collected.

He said that police came to know that Ali Mada was involved in running some gambling dens in the area. “It appears that the incident was motivated by some rivalry between operators of gambling dens,” the DIG said.

He said that further investigation was underway to ascertain the exact motive behind the attack and the identity of the perpetrators.
