BAHAWALPUR: The Mian Channu city police on Saturday claimed to have arrested over 25 suspects allegedly involved in the torture of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team during a raid in Oad Colony a couple of days back.

According to police sources, the suspects were arrested during a search operation carried out in Oad Colony by a police team led by Khanewal CIA police in-charge Mahar Saeed Ahmed, along with Mian Chunnu city and Talaumba SHOs, and Elite Force personnel.

They said most of the colony residents had fled away locking their houses fearing arrest, while some of them were still there.

According to Mian Channu city police station SHO Riaz Sial, during the operation three bags containing Rs35 million cash and gold jewellery were also recovered.

Mian Channu city police had registered a case against the suspects allegedly involved in torture of FIA’s officials, on the complaint of police Inspector Hamid Ata.

As per the FIR, the eight nominated and 40-50 unidentified suspects had also been booked for resorting to firing, interference in official duty, and attempt to murder.

Earlier, the police claimed to have arrested four of the suspects.

The FIA officials injured in the attack were under treatment at a Multan hospital.

EXHIBITIONS: A large number of people visited the Bahawalpur Museum and Central Library, where two exhibitions, one of historic pictures and the other of books, opened on Saturday in connection with Pakistan Day.

The photo exhibition entitled ‘Roshni Ka Safar’ was opened by Commissioner Nadir Chatha at the Bahawalpur Museum. Sponsored by Bahawalpur Arts Council, it featured pictures pertaining to the Pakistan Movement.

In the Central Library, the books related to free.
