HYDERABAD: Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah has suspended managing director of Water and Sanitation Agency of Hyderabad, Zahid Khemtio, on charges of misconduct and failure in performance of official duties.

According to a notification issued on Friday, the chief secretary found sewage flowing over several roads during his visit to the city.

The city’s main arteries and several main roads, Circuit House, the roads leading the Sindh High Court and lower courts were all inundated with sewage, it said.

It said the chief secretary also received complaints against Khemtio from the commissioner and deputy commissioner of Hyderabad. The officers said that Khemtio did not bother to respond whenever they contacted him, it said.

The chief secretary had attended a hearing in court as a respondent pertaining to supply of contaminated water, shortage of drinking water and faulty drainage system.

Khemtio was serving as Wasa MD for the second time and within less than two months in the office he not only drew flak from the citizens for poor water supply and drainage but also annoyed his subordinate employees.
