BAHAWALNAGAR: A young man allegedly stabbed to death his sister, a mother of four, along with his cousin, on Sunday, for having an “affair” in Mcleod Ganj, say police.

The police sources told Dawn that Azam Shah, a youth of Basti Rahmonka, suspected that his married sister Yasmeen (35), a mother of four, was having an affair with their cousin Wali Shah, (40).

Police say Azam called his sister Yasmin and cousin Wali Shah to a place, attacked them with a dagger, stabbing both of them to death, and fled away.

District police spokesperson says a murder case has been registered against Azam and his three brothers on the complaint of Wali Shah’s brother, Asif Shah. The victim’s bodies were shifted to hospital for autopsy and raids were being conducted to arrest the suspects, he adds.

Police sources say Yasmin’s husband had also suspected that his wife had relations with her cousin.

They say that the issue was placed before a panchayat (local jury), recently, which decided that Shah should publicly declare that Yasmeen was like his sister and they had no affair.

They said Shah had agreed to the panchayat’s verdict, but the issue could not be settled and ended in the double murder.
