LAHORE: The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) has taken over possession of the land measuring 2,553 acres for the construction of a 600MW solar power project in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed tehsil of Muzaffargarh district.

According to a spokesman for NTDC, the land acquisition collector announced award of the land under Section-11 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894 on Saturday in the presence of NTDC Director General (Land), Chief Engineer Project Delivery (North) and others at the proposed site of the solar power project.

The project will help lessen reliance on expensive fuel-based power generation as per the decision of the Government of Pakistan (GoP).

The NTDC is also in the process of acquiring land for two other solar power projects in Layyah (1200MW) and Jhang (600MW).

The addition of 2,400MW solar power in the system by constructing these projects will help meet the energy demand and increase the share of solar energy in the thermal-dominant energy mix.
