ROWDY STUDENTS

ROWDY STUDENTS: The residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) phase VIII in Karachi woke up to loud noises on the morning of Feb 28. As they later came to know, the students of some so-called high-end academic institutions had decided to disturb the peace of the locality for reasons known only to them. The ruckus continued for a while. All exit and entry roads remained blocked, office-goers and ambulances remained stranded, and even aerial firing was resorted to. All this while, the police constable on duty just stood by. Why? We still do not know.

UNNECESSARY CLOSURES: A number of cities in Balochistan, including Hub, Turbat, Gwadar, Quetta, Kalat and others, experienced shutdowns annou- nced by political elements unhappy with the results of recent elections. While the results were still being announced, the blame game had started, leaving the people with a sense of confusion and insecurity. Such closures should be discouraged by all concerned as they cause nothing but trouble to the people.

NEGLECTED LIBRARY: A library should be a peaceful and comfortable place to study, but the Hub Public Library is far from being such a facility. Students face multiple issues, such as lack of water and electricity, inadequate washrooms, noise disturbance and insufficient seating arrangement. The relevant authorities should manage these issues.

MASSACRE MUST END: The massacre of Palestinians by Israel must come to a halt. The self-proclaimed champions of human rights, especially the United States and the United Kingdom, are the real culprits. They are the ones behind whatever Israel is doing. The West wants Afghanistan to ensure the rights of women, but it has no such demand at all for Palestinian women. This is hypocrisy at its worst.
