HYDERABAD, March 7: A woman has appealed to the president and the prime minister, the Sindh governor and the chief minister to protect her and members of her family against threats of a Wapda official and a senior officer of a law-enforcement agency.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club along with her husband and children, Hafeez Begum, wife of Majeed Malik, said that the official and his wife had entered into an agreement with her and her husband to purchase their bungalow, 378/B in Latifabad-4, for Rs4.8 million.

She said that the official had also paid Rs1.2 million in advance and promised to pay the remaining amount in March 2005.

She alleged that the officer defaulted on payment and resorted to illegal methods.

She charged that through a senior officer of a law-enforcement agency, false cases were registered against her and her deaf and dumb children.

She said that she herself was sent to central jail for six days and her husband had to seek bail before arrest.

She said that on February 26, the Wapda official and a sub-inspector of Hussainabad police station came to their bungalow and threatened them with dire consequences if they did not vacate it.

She said that they also ransacked the house and took away ornaments and cash and also picked up her husband and her son Zohaib, who were kept in wrongful confinement for a night in Hussainabad police station.

She said that a police had refused to register her FIR and no action had so far been taken on her numerous telegrams.

She appealed to the authorities to provide protection to her and her family and appoint a high court judge to hold an inquiry in the matter.
