LAKKI MARWAT/PESHAWAR: Two traffic police constables were martyred when unknown motorcyclists opened fire on them in Darra Pezu town here on Thursday.

A police official said that head constable Zaram Khan and constable Hafeezullah came under attack while they were performing duty near Tank Mor in Pezu city.

“The attackers came on a motorcycle, sprayed the traffic sergeants with bullets and fled the place,” he maintained.

He said as a result, a constable Hafeezullah died instantly while head constable Zaram Khan was critically wounded.

“The injured cop was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital at Tajazai where he was pronounced dead by doctors,” he claimed.

After the incident, a large police contingent headed by DPO Tariq Habib reached the area and launched a search for the attackers. Meanwhile, two militants were killed by security forces in two different operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations, an intelligence based operation was conducted in Khyber tribal district where an intense exchange of fire took place between militant ring leader Shamrooz alias Sheenay.

It said that Sheenay was killed during the exchange of fire adding that another operation was successfully conducted in district Dera Ismail Khan where security forces killed another militant Mansoor.

It added that security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition and explosives from the militants, who were involved in numerous militant activities against the security forces as well as extortion and targeted killing of innocent civilians.
