The MQM-P and PML-N have reached an agreement on the “spirit, objective and need of a constitutional amendment for the establishment of autonomous and empowered local governments”.

Signed at the Parliament House, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took in MQM-P’s request of galvanising local bodies and ensuring the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award reached “all districts”.

In the MoU, it was stated that the “PML-N and MQM-P will jointly work to forge a national consensus within the parliament for the passage of the bill”.

Under the agreement, the MQM-P will “sit on the government benches instead of opposition”, in addition to supporting the PML-N “in the election of prime minister and speaker”.
