SAHIWAL: A woman cut the ear of daughter-in-law with a cleaver and injured her critically over a minor domestic dispute at Mohallah Azizabad of Pakpattan on Thursday.

On the neighbours’ complaint, Farid Nager police rushed to the area and arrested the suspect mother-in-law Sakina Bibi.

Rescue 1122 shifted the victim, Rukhsana Bibi, to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in critical condition. Sources said Rukhsana Bibi, after being given initial treatment, was referred to Teaching Hospital, Sahiwal.

Rukhsana Bibi, 26, married her cousin four years back. Her brother informed the police that his sister had complained multiple times that her mother-in-law would physically abuse and insult her over minor disputes.

Rukhsana complained to her husband too but he turned a deaf ear to his wife’s complaints. On Thursday, Sakina got infuriated after harsh words were exchanged between them.

She took a cleaver, attacked her daughter-in-law and cut her right ear into two pieces while she hit her Rukhsana’s forehead too. Rukhsana‘s hue and cry alerted the neighbours who called police emergency 15.

District Police Officer Tariq Walayat took notice of the incident. Farid Nagar SHO Afzal Jatoi, informed Dawn that police had not received any complaint for registration of the FIR yet. He confirmed that Sakina was in police custody.

In another incident, a woman and her accomplices allegedly tortured and kidnapped her estranged husband from the District Court premises.

Komal Shahzadi had filed a divorce petition against her husband, Muhammad Shahzad. When Shahzad came to court to record his statement, he was abused and tortured by two companions of Komal.

Later, Komal, along with her two accomplices, Amjad and Hyder alias Shahbaz, kidnapped Shahzad. City police registered a kidnap case against Komal on the complaint of her brother-in-law.

DRUG: City Police seized 53kg narcotics and arrested two drug traffickers.

City SHO Muhammad Asif said they checked a car and found 21kg hashish, 32kg opium and Rs 500,000 cash from the two riders. Police arrested both the suspects and registered a case.
