QUETTA, March 3: Two girls were killed and three other children were seriously injured in a hand-grenade attack in the PTCL Colony in the Sariab road area on late Friday evening.

“Both the girls were hit by splinters of the grenade and died on the spot,” Supernatant Saddar Police Wazir Khan Nasar said, adding that they were playing outside their home with the children who suffered injuries.

the children who died were identified as Mah-Noor Ejaz, 12, and Mussarat Nazir, 11, and those injured as Shahzad, 2, Tabasum, 3 and Munawar, 4. Mussrat was daughter of Nazir Marri, divisional engineer PTCL, Khuzdar, and Mah-Noor daughter of Ejaz Ahmed Marri, younger brother of Nazir Marri who had come to Quetta from Kohlu a few days ago. Shahzad and Tabasum are children of another PTCL employee while Munawwar’s father Farhan Ayubi is an assistant engineer in PTCL.

Check posts attacked: Over a dozen rockets were fired on checkposts of Frontier Corps in different areas of Dera Bugti and Kohlu districts on Friday.

District nazim of Dera Bugti claimed that four FC personnel were killed and half a dozen injured in a landmine blast in Ghori Nullah area and four members of a family were killed in firing in the Samny area of Dera Bugti. Official sources, however, did not confirm any casualty in these areas.

According to sources, armed tribesmen attacked FC posts in Kahan, Loti gas field, Pathar Nullah and Ghori Nullah areas. The rockets exploded in open areas, causing no casualty or damage. FC personnel retaliated and fired rockets on positions of the assailants.

Official sources said that at least four landmines were detected by security forces in the Kamro-Wadh area.

“The anti-tank mines were planted by miscreants to target vehicles of security forces,” sources said adding that the landmines were defused.
