LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Monday denied police physical remand of PTI-backed independent defeated candidate from NA-119 Mian Shahzad Farooq and sent him to jail on judicial remand in a case of attacking a police team and resorting to violence.

Gujjarpura police presented Farooq and nine other suspects before the court to seek their physical remand. The investigating officer requested the court to allow a 30-day physical remand of the suspects in the case.

Judge Naveed Iqbal turned down the police request and sent Farooq to jail on judicial remand and discharged the remaining suspects in the case.

The police registered a case against the PTI men on charges of staging a protest rally and opening fire on police personnel.

Separately, Judge Naveed Iqbal denied police further physical remand of PTI leader Khalid Gujjar in Askari Tower attack case and sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Gulberg police presented Gujjar before the court on expiry of previous physical remand.

The investigating officer asked the court to extend the physical remand of the suspect for 14 days.

However, the judge rejected the request and sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand.
