KE, Hubco sign MoU

KARACHI: K-Electric and Hub Power Company Ltd have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the opportunity for off-take of affordable electricity following the conversion of the Hub plant to local Thar coal.

This is in line with KE’s long-term strategy to induct power generation from indigenous sources into its energy mix. The company is exploring the viability of Thar coal-based power generation projects.

The Hub power station is a 1,292MW (four units of 323MW each), residual fuel oil-based plant, which has maintained high standards of operations since 1997.

KE Chief Executive Moonis Abdullah Alvi stated the company is looking at a future to substitute its reliance on imported fossil fuels with indigenous sources, creating a more resilient power value chain.

Hubco CEO Kamran Kamal said the proposed conversion to coal will play a crucial role in decreasing reliance on imported fuels.
