STRAY DOGS

STRAY DOGS: The number of stray dogs has risen in Khairpur Mirs to the extent that it has now become a serious threat to the local people, especially children. The Talpur Colony area probably has lesser human beings than stray dogs. A few weeks ago, a video from Civil Hospital, Khairpur, caught my attention in which a child could be seen with serious injuries on his face after a stray dog had brutally attacked him. The local municipal committee appears to be blind, deaf and dumb in this regard. There is a need to clear residential areas from stray dogs for the safety of the local people.

WINDER NEEDS GAS: The gas crisis in Winder city has become serious. People have to use wood to keep their kitchens functional as well as heating water. This causes a number of health issues. They get inflamed eyes, have difficulty in breathing, and face other complications. If the shortage continues, their lives will become even harder.

IRON THIEVES: Manhole covers, iron grills, rods and plates are continuously stolen from public places in Karachi, and are sold to scrap dealers. Even concrete slabs and walls are taken down so that iron rods may be removed from them. Union councils (UCs) must take measures to protect what is left of the iron structures in the city.

AUTHOR VISITS: There is a lot of discussion over poor attendance in libraries and how to develop book the reading habit in people. I came across an interesting suggestion which may be applied in schools, especially for grade V-X. Schools should invite a certain number of authors every year for interaction with students. This will spark interest in young minds. Author visits can lead to positive literacy outcomes and increased reading and writing engagement among the youth.
