ISLAMABAD, March 1: There will be no let-up in operation against saboteurs and farrari camps in Balochistan, says President General Pervez Musharraf.

He said that development work in the province would move ahead and no-one would be allowed to impede the process of development.

He was presiding over an inter-provincial meeting which took several decisions on the law and order situation in Balochistan and continuation of operation in tribal areas.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, chief ministers of the provinces, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, State Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Tariq Azim and PML secretary-general Mushahid Hussain attended the meeting.

President Musharraf lauded the role of security forces in the operation in North Waziristan and said: “We will not rest until the menace of terrorism is stamped out. We will eliminate terrorism from tribal areas at all costs.”

On Balochistan issue, the president said, the people of the province had been liberated from the grip of certain tribal chieftains. He said Nawab Bugti’s associates had also been disappointed by him.

He reiterated that all resources would be used to protect installations of national importance. He said that the provincial government would be given all assistance it needed to protect people’s lives and public property and timely completion of development projects.

The president directed the chief ministers to take steps to ensure law and order in their provinces.

Matters relating to influx of arms in Balochistan also came under discussion and it was decided that vigilance would be tightened along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The president said that most of the recommendations evolved by parliamentary committee on Balochistan with reference to the law and order situation and provincial autonomy had been implemented.— Online
