PESHAWAR, Feb 28: An anti-terrorism court here on Tuesday dismissed bail applications of 19 people charged with damaging public and private property during a strike against the publication of blasphemous cartoons in some European newspapers.

The accused were produced before the court of Judge Shahjee Rehman.

The prosecution counsel contended that the accused were arrested for hurling stones on the showrooms in Peshawar and damaging property.

In case they were released, he argued, there was a possibility that they might again attack buildings and vehicles which would create a law and order situation in the province.

He prayed before the court to dismiss their bail applications, which was allowed by the court.

The defence counsel rejected argued that the accused were allegedly charged in the case. He prayed before the court to release the accused.

PHC: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail application of a former customs inspector Fida Mohammad Khan who was charged with accumulating millions of rupees through corrupt practices.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Tariq Pervez and Justice Muhammad Qiam Jan Khan after hearing arguments dismissed the bail application. The accused had submitted a plea before the court and asked it to order his release on the grounds of illness.—APP
