HYDERABAD, Feb 28: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said the district government is spending maximum funds from its kitty to improve health and education sectors.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a rural health centre in Tando Qaisar, Hyderabad taluka, on Monday. The nazim said that in addition to providing lacking facilities to existing health and education institutions, the district government was running four health facilities – Kohisar Hospital, Tanga Stand Phuleli Hospital, Tando Qaisar Rural Health Centre and Machi Para Basic Health Unit in Latifabad – from its own resources because SNEs of these facilities had not been approved as yet.

He said the local government planned to construct 30 new primary schools in the district during the current financial year for which tenders would be invited within a week.

He said the Tando Qaisar RHC would cater to the needs of 50,000 people of the area and provide all health facilities, including X-Ray and OT. Mr Jamil announced that an ambulance and a standby generator would be provided to the health centre and the boundary wall of the hospital would be repaired along with the adjoining primary school of Tando Qaisar.

He said officers of departments concerned had been assigned to undertake a survey and identify closed hospitals and schools in the district so that the same could be made functional.

The nazim said the communication sector was another priority of the district government to provide better transport facilities to people and boost economic activities in rural areas.

He said the district government had prepared a Rs49.575 million plan of communication network in the district. Under the plan, he said, tenders had been issued for repairing roads in the Hyderabad taluka (rural), including roads from Shaikh Bhirkio to Almani regulator, Hyderabad New City to Wanki Wasi, Ghanghra Mori to Baghwah, Tando Hyder police checkpost to Filter Plant Road, Moosa Katian, Arif Khatian to Bhittai Mosque, Husri to Bahawal Zaonr and Tando Fazal to Tando Saindad Road.

Besides, he said, other development programmes up to the cost of Rs1 million in each union council were in progress and would be completed by June 2006.

He said Rs240 million had been allocated to install a water filter plant in Tando Jam and provide water supply and sewerage systems in different union councils of the taluka.

He urged union council nazims to monitor ongoing development works in their areas so that the quality of work could be ensured.
