Sky News has issued an on-air apology after one of its presenters drew comparisons between Palestinians fleeing Gaza and the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust, Al Jazeera reports.
In an interview with Israeli politician Danny Danon, presenter Belle Donati challenged Danon on an op-ed he wrote for the Wall Street Journal in which he called on countries to “accept limited numbers of Gazan families who have expressed a desire to relocate”.
After Danon insisted he supported the “voluntary relocation” of Palestinians, not ethnic cleansing, Donati accused him of supporting the “sort of voluntary relocation of many Jewish people during the Holocaust”.
Danon blasted Donati’s comparison as “shameful”.
In a statement broadcast on-air, the broadcaster said: “Sky News recognises the complete inappropriateness of this comparison and the offensive nature of those comments.
