ISLAMABAD: The first transgender person, Ms Reem Sharif, has been appointed as Deputy Director of Pakistan’s first Transgender Protection Center on the Basic Pay Scale-18 by the Government of Pakistan.

Ms Reem will lead the transgender protection center, which was established by the Ministry of Human Rights in Islamabad.

In Pakistan’s history, this is the first time a transgender person has been employed by the government in such a senior position.

Ms Reem has two master’s degrees, one in International Relations and the other in Gender and Women Studies.

She has vast experience serving the transgender community and is also a laureate of various national awards. Besides, she has also worked as Pakistan’s first transgender police staffer in 2020.
