Hisham Jaber, a retired Lebanese general, says there is a limit to when restrained fighting along the Lebanon-Israel border morphs into “a large-scale war”, Al Jazeera reports.
But he said he doesn’t believe Hezbollah will be the first to launch a major conflict. “Hezbollah will not take the great responsibility to make the first strike and open the larger war,” Jaber told Al Jazeera.
He expressed scepticism over news reports suggesting the Israelis are pulling out troops from Gaza and moving them to the Israel-Lebanon border.
“Only in the case of a large war between Lebanon and Israel, then of course Israel will bring other troops, other brigades, and other divisions,” said Jaber.
