He told Dawn that the incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate Police Station. The DSP said the police cordoned off the area after the attack and began a search operation.

Mr Jadoon is one of the founding members of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in Swabi district.

He told police that a man fired two gunshots at his car when he was going home after attending a resident’s funeral prayers in Topi village.

The candidate said the bullets left visible marks on a car door.

Mr Jadoon, who enjoyed the support of the local Khangi Jirga and resented election nominations by PTI leaders, claimed that he was supported by a majority of workers.
