LARKANA, Feb 26: Six rockets were fired on the Larkana Sugar Mills near Naudero on Saturday night, damaging its boiler and other structures. The resident director of the mill narrowly escaped the attack. The mill immediately halted its operation.

Resident director of the mill Khwaja Iqbal Ghafoor told Dawn on Sunday that the plant was restarted after about ten hours.

The attackers fired the rockets and resorted to heavy firing. A pipeline of the main boiler of the mill was hit and damaged. Two rockets landed in the residential area.

The guards on duty repelled the attack. Khwaja Iqbal said that a bullet also hit his jeep but he was not hurt.

The heavy exchange of fire created panic in the mill and its residential colony.

Larkana DPO Ghulam Rasool Domki came with a heavy contingent of police and inspected the site of incident.

At the time of the attack, a number of trucks loaded with sugarcane were at the weighbridge and around 500 workers were in the mill.

The assailants escaped after the attack. The resident director said five empty shells of the rocket were handed over to police for investigation.
