RAWALPINDI, Feb 26: Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman Gen Ehsanul Haq Sunday said Nato’s support in the recent earthquake had opened new avenues of cooperation between the Pakistan armed forces and the organization.

He expressed these sentiments while talking to Gen James L. Jones, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and his delegation during their visit to Joint Staff Headquarters.

The Nato delegation was apprised of the efforts of Pakistan in war against terrorism, its initiative for Pakistan- India peace process and situation on eastern and western borders.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman appreciated the spontaneous response and magnanimous assistance of Nato in the October 8 earthquake in Pakistan. He mentioned that their support had greatly facilitated relief operations in the devastated areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Gen James L. Jones lauded the cooperation of the armed forces of Pakistan with Nato in relief operations and said Nato members had left Pakistan with profound memories of friendship and sense of accomplishment.
