CHARSADDA: Rejecting the resolution adopted by Senate to delay the February 8 polls, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Sunday said that general elections must be held on its scheduled date without any delay.

Addressing a press conference in Shabqadar tehsil here, he said that the resolution adopted by Senate to seek delay in elections was meaningless. He said that polls must be held to enable the people to elect their representatives.

Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leadership, he said that its popularity graph was falling, but it was using the so-called regime change narrative in a face saving effort. He urged people to use their right to vote to send their representatives to assemblies so that they could work for the uplift of their areas.

Mr Sherpao said that the nomination papers of the PTI candidates were accepted so the complaint about level playing field was not based on reality. He said that PTI was getting unprecedented relief from courts.

QWP chief terms Senate resolution meaningless

He said that nobody cared to raise voice for the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which was facing financial crunch. He said that all uplift projects in KP were put on the back burner.

SENTENCED: A local court awarded death sentence to a man and imposed Rs500,000 fine on him for slaughtering his four-year-old daughter.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Abdul Hasan Mohmand convicted Obaidullah of Shabara area for slaughtering his four-year-old daughter Maryam the in 2022 and throwing her body in the nearby fields.

A case was registered against the accused under Sections 302, 325, 311, 364A at Parang police station.

CNG: The closure of CNG filling stations has caused increase in transport fares in the district.

Locals complained that domestic consumers could not get any relief even after closure of CNG stations while fares were also increased. They alleged that district administration failed to control transporters.

They said that unilateral increase in fares led to quarrels between passengers and transport operators.

They urged administration to take action against transporters for unilateral increase in fares.

“The price of petroleum has been reduced several times, but fares have not been decreased. It is the responsibility of administration to help commuters and take action against transporters,” they said.
