LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Monday extended the physical remand of PTI social media activist Sanam Javed for another day in a May 9 case of attack on the PML-N party office in Model Town.

The police presented the activist before a duty judge at the sessions courts on expiry of her two-day remand.

The investigating officer stated that further custody of the suspect was required to complete the investigation. He sought seven-day remand of the activist. However, the court granted physical remand of the activist only for one day.

Last week, the government had told the Lahore High Court that the 30-day detention of Sanam Javed had been withdrawn.

A law officer said the deputy commissioner withdrew the detention order, which was earlier passed on the request of the CCPO. He also presented a notification issued by the DC in this regard.

The father of the activist said the government with a mala fide intention issued the detention order of his daughter under the MPO only to keep her behind bars as she had been granted bail by the courts in all the cases registered against her.

rejection certificates: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) claims that most of the party candidates, whose nomination papers have been rejected by the returning officers, are being denied the certified copies of ‘rejection certificates’.

In the absence of rejection certificates, the PTI candidates are unable to file appeals against the ROs’ decisions before the appellate tribunals, which began work on Dec 31 and will remain available until only Jan 3 (Wednesday) tomorrow – as per election schedule given by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

A senior party leader told Dawn several ROs had been reported telling the candidates that the rejection certificates would not be given until Jan 3.

Considering the situation, the PTI lawyers filed a writ petition before the Lahore High Court which directed the ECP representative to appear before it on Tuesday (today) and respond to the complaints.
