DRUG ABUSE: The rising trend of substance abuse among college and university students poses a threat to the health, academic progress and overall wellbeing of our young minds. Beyond individual consequences, its impact extends to increased rates of academic failure, disrupted social relationships, and potential involvement in criminal activities, affecting the fabric of society. To combat the issue, a collaborative effort among educational institutions, local authorities and the larger community is needed. Implementing preventive measures, awareness campaigns, and counselling services, along with stricter enforcement of regulations regarding substance sale and distribution near campuses can create a safer environment for academic and personal growth.

FERTILISER SHORTAGE: The shortage of fertilizer and its increased price during the peak sowing season of wheat has created an economic burden on the growers, and has reduced the crop yield. This year again, like other parts of the country, farmers of Johi in Sindh’s Dadu district are facing the issue. The government rate of urea fertiliser is about Rs3,500, but it is being sold in the black for more than Rs5,000 per bag. The mafia gets active in the wheat sowing season and earns millions of rupees without any fear of accountability or consequences. The higher authorities should take strict action against these mafias and ensure the availability of fertiliser at the designated rate across the country.

DEATH PENALTY: Death penalty is the only language that murderers in Pakistan possibly understand. Ironi-cally, it is not being implemented because we want to qualify for trade concessions from the European Union. Consequently, such horrific incidents are increasing every day. If not death penalty, what else can be done to protect the people from murderers and robbers?
