Al Jazeera’s senior Analyst Marwan Bishara says the proposed Egyptian truce plan will be a “tough one” to convince the warring parties in Gaza to agree to.

“Israel will not accept a ceasefire anytime soon without defeating Hamas. Hamas will not accept defeat or accept being deposed from power,” he added.

“Both parties still think they have something to gain out of this war. They’re not going to let some 11 weeks of war go without getting their investment back.”

The proposal, which was presented to Israel, Hamas, the US and European governments, would see Israel fully withdraw from the Gaza Strip, all captives held by Hamas, and many Palestinian prisoners, freed, and a united technocratic Palestinian government installed in the enclave.
