SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 22: Six people including a police constable received bullet injuries on Wednesday when two rival groups traded fire on district courts’ premises here.

Reports said the two groups, respectively led by Farman and Mustafa, who were in litigation over a murder case, came to the district courts. As they came face to face on the court premises, the groups opened fire on each other. As a result, Ghulam Mustafa, Shafiq, Sadiq, Mansha, Dost Muhammad and a constable, Maqbool, sustained bullet injuries. Two of the injured were rushed to Lahore in precarious condition, while the others were admitted into a local hospital.

The exchange of heavy fire created panic among lawyers, litigants and court officials, some of whom had to run for their lives.

The lawyers boycotted the courts to protest against the incident terming it extreme lawlessness.

Bar president Munawar Hussan and other members demanded that police should take action against those visiting the courts’ premises carrying weapons to check such incidents in future.
