Navy to be strengthened, says Aziz

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said that his government would spare no effort in strengthening the defence capabilities of the Navy.

He reposed complete trust and confidence in the professional capabilities of the Pakistan Navy with regard to the defence of the country’s maritime frontiers.

The Prime Minister made this compliment during his visit to the Naval Headquarters on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister further said that all requirements of the Navy would be met on priority basis to convert it into a force to be reckoned with.

He also spelled out the focus of his government on economic development, side by side with the development of coastal areas.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that our progress was dependent on maritime activity and the Government would continue to support the entire maritime sector.

A detailed operational briefing was given by Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral Muhammad Shafi about the role of the Navy in the emerging regional maritime scenario.

Senior Minister and Minister for Defence Rao Sikandar Iqbal along with senior officers also attended the briefing.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was received by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir on his arrival at the Naval Headquarters. He was then presented Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy.
