PESHAWAR: Khyber College of Dentistry has decided to establish emergency ward to ensure prompt treatment to patients and avoid complications.

This was ordered by newly-appointed chairman of the Board of Governors Dr Umar Ayub Khan during his maiden visit to the college on Tuesday.

He also directed the administration to take steps in this regard, a press release said.

Dr Umar was appointed chairman BoG MTI-Khyber Medical College, Khyber Teaching Hospital and KCD by the government, vowed that he would take along the staffers to bring about improvement in diagostic and treatment services.

On the occasion, KCD Dean Prof Dr Syed Nasir Shah and all the faculty members held a meeting with chairman BoG and informed him about suggestions aiming to improve patients’ care at the oldest dental college of the province.

During the meeting, discussions took place regarding establishment of a basic sciences department to provide a strong foundation in natural calamities to the patients and bring improvement in the overall operations of the college.

Chairman Dr Umar said that the establishment of an emergency ward would enable the healthcare workers offer immediate medical attention to patients requiring emergency treatment.

Additionally, he instructed to start oral medicine postgraduate programme to give cutting-edge diagnosis and medical treatment for conditions of the mouth, face, salivary glands and jaw bones.

BoG chairman answered several questions of staff members on the spot, which included solving the grading structure and discussing the benefits of the MTI Act regarding job security, educational leaves, accommodations, allowances and parking issues.

KCD’s dean Dr Nasir on the occasion informed the participants that their commitment to quality patient care and outcomes was evident in monthly clinical audit reports.

Through systematic reviews of care against explicit criteria, we were constantly seeking to improve and enhance patient care, he said.
