SUKKUR: A woman was shot dead and her mother was wounded in an attack carried out while they were returning home after attending the hearing of a case pertaining to their family matter in in Khairpur on Saturday.

According to the area police, the deceased woman, Paras, 22, was divorced by Abdul Shakoor Pirzado about a year ago and she had moved the court to seek financial support from him for their son. She along with her mother, Shabana Khatoon, was returning home after attending the hearing of her plea when she was attacked. She died on the spot and her mother also sustained critical bullet wounds.

The police believed that the attack was carried out by Pirzado, and claimed that he fled the area after committing the crime.

The victims were residents of Shaldani village near Piryaloi town of Khairpur district.

They were taken to the Rural Health Centre of Garhi Mori near the town where doctors pronounced Paras as dead on arrival and referred Shabana Khatoon to the Khairpur Civil Hospital due to her critical condition.

A hunt for the suspected assailant was under way, said the police.
