BEAUTIFUL CAPITAL

Published December 14, 2023

People in Islamabad are often seen claiming that the city is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. There is no doubt that Islamabad has scenic views. However, every day one can see dumpers carrying waste moving towards Rawat using the Islamabad Expressway. These overloaded dumpers, oblivious to the serene environment of the city, spill the waste all over the road, leaving a sharply pungent smell all across the route. If we really believe in keeping Islamabad clean and green, there must be some checks and balances to stop these dumpers from spreading pollution.

ENCROACHMENTS: The area of Sharfabad in Karachi’s Bahadurabad locality was once considered a prime location in the city. But today, living in the area is nothing less than a nightmare. Alamgir Road, Bahadur Shah Zafar Road, Shaheed-i-Millat Road and other streets and lanes have been completely taken over by roadside vendors, eateries and tea stalls. The majority of the people living in the area are taxpayers who have had their homes here for decades. The authorities should protect the community against the spreading social nuisance owing to unbridled commercialisation.

BEGGARS IN QUETTA: The number of beggars in Quetta has increased significantly. They can be seen everywhere across the city; in markets and parks, outside restaurants and in the streets, occupying any place they find relevant. Most of them have made begging their profession despite being physically fit. Some beggars are involved in serious offences, while some suffer from highly infectious and contagious diseases, such as leprosy, tuberculosis, risking lives of others. It is necessary to ensure that such cases are taken care of, and treated in state-run hospitals, while other professional beggars should be taken to task.
