MANSEHRA: The Kohistan police have beefed up the security of people travelling on the Karakoram Highway between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, an official said on Tuesday.

He also told Dawn that “adequate” security would be provided to foreigners working on development projects in Kohistan region.

At least 10 people, including two army soldiers, were killed last Saturday when terrorists opened fire on a passenger bus travelling on the Karakoram Highway in GB’s Chilas area.

Meanwhile, a man who was injured in the Chilas bus attack died here on Monday.

Gulfam Khan, the owner of the truck that caught fire after being hit by the bus, succumbed to injuries. He was buried in his native Dodial Shanai area. Truck driver Mohammad Sajid, who suffered critical burns in the incident, died instantly.

ENCROACHMENTS REMOVED: The tehsil municipal administration on Thursday began an anti-encroachment campaign and removed illegal structures both temporary and permanent from Mansehra city and its outskirts.

A team led by chief officer of the TMA’s anti-encroachment department Mohammad Asif carried out the drive on the Abbottabad Road, Kashmir Road and Shinkiari Road, and shifted the seized goods to the main godown of the municipality.

It also eliminated illegal staff from the roadside and footpaths, and seized goods.

The TMA warned shopkeepers against encroaching on its land.

Tehsil municipal officer Mazhar Khan Awan told reporters that the anti-encroachment drive would ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic.
