BAHAWALPUR: Two alleged dacoits were killed in an ‘encounter’ within the limits of the Khairpur Tamewali police station, about 45km from here, on Sunday.

According to police spokesman Umar Saleem, a police party was escorting arrested Ashri Patwari for the recovery of snatched motorcycles when it was attacked near Bagh by four armed men riding two motorcycles.

The PRO said they opened fire on police to free Ashri from the police party. He said police retaliated in self-defence. After firing was stopped Ashri and one of the attackers identified as Mushtaq Dadpotra were found killed by their own firing.

Three attackers managed to flee from the scene.
