NAWABSHAH: A student suffered injuries when activists of Sindh Peoples Students Federation and United Students Federation clashed with each other and turned the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) premises into a battle ground for a brief period here on Thursday.

Panic spread as the warring students ran after one another through different blocks and locked the main gate of the university when a quarrel between some students escalated into a violent fight during Sindhi Culture Day celebrations. Shoaib Zardari, a leader of SPSF, was severely beaten up by members of the rival group.

Later, police reached the university and brought the situation under control. Police shifted the injured to Peoples Medical University Hospital where he was provided treatment and discharged.

Meanwhile, SBBU students welfare officer Abdul Jabbar Brohi registered an FIR under Sections 506/2, 147, 148, 337 PPC at Taluka police station against nine students identified as Shiraz Rind, Majid Baloch, Mushtaq Rind, Imran Rind, Ahsan Mallah, Shahnawaz Chandio, Khan Mohammad Chandio, Sarfaraz Rind and Abdul Jabbar Rind.

A press release issued by the university said that admissions of the 10 students involved in the incident had been cancelled.
