PESHAWAR, Feb 18: The Awami National Party on Saturday organised hunger strike camps at district level in the NWFP to protest against the blasphemous cartoons published in some European newspapers.

A hunger strike camp was also set up at Chowk Yadgar in the provincial metropolis.

ANP senior vice-president Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Haji Adeel, party’s provincial chief Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Syed Aqil Shah, Hameedur Rehman Mohammadzai, Mian Mushtaq, Ghulam Mustafa, Haji Imran Afridi and others went on hunger strike at the Chowk Yadgar camp. Senator Asfandyar Wali Khan visited the camp and remained there for an hour.

The hunger strike began at 10am and continued till 4pm.

The hunger strikers demanded that Pakistan and other Islamic countries should cut off diplomatic ties and boycott the products of the countries where the sacrilegious cartoons were published and re-printed.
