The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territory has said that despite an increase in supplies entering Gaza, the volume of incoming commodities is insufficient to meet the extensive needs.

“Aid groups have called for the immediate re-opening of more crossing points, including for the entry of commercial goods,” it said in a report.

Here are the key findings regarding the humanitarian situation in the enclave as per the report:

  • High risk of infectious disease in shelters due to severe overcrowding and disruption of health, water, and sanitation systems
  • Up to 1.8 million people, or nearly 80 per cent of the population, estimated to be internally displaced
  • Vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, sick and elderly struggling to cope up
  • 2km long queues in Khan Younis for food
