There has been a major shift in support for Israel since October 7, especially in Europe, according to Adel Abdel Ghafar of the Middle East Council, Al Jazeera reports.
“We have seen the Belgian PM and the Spanish president speak very vocally at the Rafah crossing, criticising Israel’s conduct in the war,” he told the news outlet.
“The Spanish president said he will recognise Palestine unilaterally if the EU does not. This is unprecedented.”
On US Secretary Blinken’s upcoming visit to Israel this week, Ghafar said the Biden administration will be looking to convince the Israeli government to end the aggression and push for a long-lasting solution.
“What this war has shown is that putting this conflict aside has become untenable,” he added. “A long-term political solution is needed.”
