KOHAT: A man allegedly shot dead a widow woman here on Saturday over her refusal to marry him.

The widow identified as Nausheen was going to bazaar with her father when she was killed by the accused in the limits of Cantonment police station. Ahmed Khan, the father of the victim, told police that he and his daughter were going to bazaar where Gul Mohammad, who wanted to marry her, was standing with a pistol in his hand. He opened firing on her that resulted in her instant death, he added.

The suspect managed to escape. Police reached the spot and took the victim to KDA Teaching Hospital where her autopsy was conducted. Her body was later handed over to relatives for burial. Police registered FIR and started investigation.

SUSPENDED: Three revenue officials have been suspended for not completing 9,000 land transfers by computerising the remaining Mozas spread over thousands of acres of land.

According to a notification, a copy of which is available with Dawn, tehsildar Amir, Girdawar Shehzad Khan and deputy director database Ziaullah have been suspended for not computerising the land record.

An official told Dawn that mutations of 145 Mozas out of 149 had been completed. He said that each Moza consisted of thousands of mutations, which were being computerised to prevent rampant illegal transfers.
