MITHI, Feb 16: Residents of the Meenhal Bajir village of the Mithi taluka have complained to the prime minister and the Wapda chairman that a number of electrification schemes in Thar have not been completed owing to alleged misappropriation of material and funds by contractor.

The residents pointed out in their complaint that the government had sanctioned a number of electrification schemes through Sazda for Thar, including Rs22 million scheme from Mithi to Chelhar, Rs11 million scheme from Chhachhro to Kantio and Rs30 million scheme from Chhachhro to Islamkot.

The villagers alleged that the contractor had sold the material of these schemes and had not completed even 50 per cent of the work. They said the contractor showed the work completed in record, drew most of his bills and fled.

The villagers said MPA Arbab Faiz Mohammad had sanctioned the scheme of electrification of the Posarko village in 1987.

The contractor installed only 55 poles, left the scheme in half way, got bills drawn and disappeared, they said.

Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto sanctioned another scheme but the contractor left the work uncompleted and disappeared.

The villagers said numerous complaints were made in this regard to relevant quarters but no action was initiated against anyone.
