MULTAN, Feb 15: Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for excessive appealing during Monday’s third One-day International against India in Lahore.

Asif, who took two wickets in one over during the match, pleaded guilty at a hearing, the ICC said on Wednesday.

“Asif is new to the international arena and is trying very hard to change the way he appeals but he must learn to respect the umpire and turn to ask if the batsman is out for all dismissals,” match referee Chris Broad said in a statement.

All Level 1 breaches of the ICC code of conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50 percent of a player’s match fee. Asif cannot appeal the decision.

Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq was fined 10 percent of his match fees and the team five percent for bowling one over less than required in the five-wicket defeat to India.—Reuters
