Aqeel and Yasir in semis

KARACHI, Feb 15: Davis Cupper Aqeel Khan and his younger brother Yasir Khan completed the men’s singles last four line-up in the Open tennis championship at the Karachi Gymkhana on Wednesday.

Aqeel, seeded fourth, who had a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 sailing over Kashif Pirozani late Tuesday got the better of Nasir Mushtaq 6-1, 6-4 in quarterfinals. He now faces second seed Khalid Ali Nazar while top seed Yasir is pitted against fourth seed Nomi Qamar in the two semifinals.

Upcoming pair of Zuhair-Mustafa were stretched to limits by Omer Shahid-Sunny Williams on their way to winning the boys U-15 doubles title. They were home 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Results:

Men’s singles (second round/quarterfinal): Aqeel Khan bt Kashif Pirozani 6-2, 6-2; Aqeel Khan bt Nasir Mushtaq 6-1, 6-4.

Boys U-15 doubles (final): Zuhair-Mustafa bt Omer Shahid-Sunny Williams 6-4, 3-6, 6-3

Boys U-9 singles: Khwaja Hamza bt Imran Mooraj 6-3, 6-1
