KARACHI, Oct 16: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Tuesday announced to launch a comprehensive fund-raising drive to provide assistance to the victims of US-led air strikes on Afghanistan.

“The fund is being established to support innocent Afghani children, women and elderly people who fell victim to US bombardment. The drive will commence from Oct 18 in Karachi”

Speaking at a press conference, the JI Karachi chief Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui said during the drive, hundreds of camps will be setup throughout the city besides raising funds during door-to-door campaign and outside mosques.

He cautioned the government of dire consequences if it attempted to restrain them from pursuing this drive.

He made a passionate appeal to philanthropists to participate whole-heatedly in the campaign to raise funds for their poverty-stricken Afghan brethren i their hour of trial.

He said that leaders of political and religious parties have resolved to remain peaceful during anti-US protest campaign.—PPI
